French Department Faculty
Binita Mehta, Chair - Professor Mehta received her Ph.D. in French literature from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York. Her book, Widows, Pariahs, and Bayadères: India as Spectacle was published in 2002. In 2003-2004, she received a grant from FACSEA, now FACE (French American Educational Exchange), to screen five contemporary French films at Manhattanville College. She received the grant again for the year 2004-2005. In October 2004, she co-organized a joint Manhattanville College-SUNY Purchase interdisciplinary conference that took place at Manhattanville College entitled “Haiti: 200 Years of Independence.” Her teaching interests include advanced French language and culture, French literature from the eighteenth through the twentieth centuries, Orientalism in French Literature, Postcolonial Francophone and Anglophone Literatures, Film.
